CSM-RA: Network Rail application

CSM-RA: Network Rail application

Our popular CSM course on Risk Evaluation and Assessment has been run for more than three years during which time it has welcomed hundreds of delegates from a broad range of organisations across the rail sector.

The programme has been regularly updated to take account of related industry changes, including updates to the CSM itself, the latest version being 402/2013, which was amended in July 2015.

In recognition of the fact that Network Rail is the largest practitioner of the CSM in the UK - and a significant number of other companies working on infrastructure projects are required to be compliant with Network Rail processes - our latest update includes a new module describing the specific Network Rail application as described in their Level 2 Module NR/L3/RSE/100/02 entitled: ‘Application of the CSM on Risk Evaluation and Assessment’.  More generally, it also serves as an example of how an organisation can apply CSM in practice.

The course still describes the core requirements from the CSM and how to respond to them, but the additional module describes where the Network Rail process differs from a more generic approach and places it within the context of Network Rail’s project lifecycle process (known as GRIP).

The additional module is arranged as follows:

  • Overview
  • Deciding Who is Proposer
  • Accountabilities, Responsibilities and Competence
  • Network Rail’s CSM process stage-by-stage
  • Mapping CSM to Lifecycle phases

If you have already attended Day 1 of the CSM-RA course, it may still be worth considering attending again, particularly if it has been over six months, to catch up on the latest developments related to the CSM and understand the Network Rail implementation.

Alternatively, we can present the new module on its own as a briefing to a larger group of staff who are already familiar with CSM.
