UK rail team welcomes new colleagues

Central to the continued success of our UK business is the quality and diversity of professional backgrounds of our experts.

Over the past six months we are fortunate to have welcomed a number of talented individuals to our UK-based teams, each of whom has an important role to play in helping to deliver client projects.

Among those to have joined us in recent months are:

Tony Brown joined us in October 2016 as a Principal Consultant and Chartered Engineer. Previously Head of Engineering at Virgin Trains East Coast, Tony is an experienced rolling stock engineer with extensive knowledge of the technical and commercial issues associated with operating, maintaining and upgrading diesel and electric high-speed trains. He also has extensive senior experience of managing rolling stock companies, key contractors and overhaul suppliers within the UK rail supply industry. He is based in our York offices. 

Eleanor Hirst moved to Ricardo from Bombardier in October 2016. Prior to joining us, she completed the graduate scheme at Bombardier then spent two years as both a reliability engineer and a safety engineer for the London Overground fleet at New Cross Gate depot. Here she oversaw fleet checks and modifications, and managed the resolution of safety issues. Eleanor is based in our London Paddington offices and is currently supporting Hitachi Rail Europe with electrical engineering on the IEP project.

Andy Witkowski (pictured below) has been appointed as our Key Account Manager for major UK clients such as Network Rail and TfL. Andrew joined us last autumn from CH2M Hill where he had spent more than a decade in senior roles within the traction and rolling stock teams. 


Ross Dunsford is a Senior Signalling and System Safety Engineering Consultant with over 14 years’ experience as both a Project Manager and Senior Engineer in Network Rail, most recently on the Birmingham New Street Area Re-signalling Project. Ross will act as a Signalling Assessor on a number of major projects such as the Western and Wales modernisation programme.

Dr Lisa Kelly is an Ergonomics specialist who joined our Human Factors team in January.  She previously worked for Bombardier, where she was the Human Factors lead on the Crossrail Class 345 RS project, and for Thales on London Underground’s Jubilee and Northern Line Upgrade Projects. Lisa has an extensive background in Human Factors issues log management, ergonomic assessments, workload analysis and has presented several papers at conferences. She will be based in the Derby Office on Pride Park, Derby.

Samia Shaikh (pictured below) is a Safety Engineer who holds an Engineering Doctorate from the University of Manchester. Sam brings extensive knowledge of practices in the nuclear, marine and aerospace sectors having gained experience in previous roles at Rolls Royce, Serco and SAS Engineering. Amongst other projects, she is currently working on a Safety Case (including RAMS analysis) for the Hitachi Class 385 and a Common Event Risk Scoring Methodology for the RSSB. Samia is based in the Derby office.
