The NS project Stadler Fast Light Innovative Regional Train (FLIRT) is an electric multiple unit (EMU) manfactured by Stadler Rail, a Swiss-based rail manufacturer.
The vehicles are designed and manufactured for operations on suburban and regional railway lines. The 1·5 kV DC EMUs will have aluminium bodyshells, with the latest front protection in the event of collision at level crossings. Maximum speed will be 160 km/h and there will be provision for the installation of ETCS.
Ricardo is also working on the Alphen Gouda project (TAG), which is a Stadler Flirt for the operatror, Abellio. The first FFF trains will run from Poland to the Netherlands, with the First TAG and FFF trainsets already under type test for certification in the Netherlands.
Now that Ricardo's design review team has verified that the train fulfills the requirements set by NS Dutch Railways, the FFF Final Acceptance team is setting up their agreements with Stadler and NS for the first handover at the end of July 2016.
